Thinking Back, Making Forward

In the last 30 years, creative disciplines such as art, design, architecture, creative writing, fashion, and others have seen a “research turn”, stimulated by programmes to deepen artists’ reflections on the roots, relevance, and urgencies of their work. The rise of practice-based research is transforming these disciplines. However, the integration of research into artistic practice has not always been smooth, the transformations not unequivocally positive. This book is the result of an open call to ask artists how PhD research has influenced their making and thinking. Through its 30 contributions, a wide range of possibilities emerges as to what this kind of practice can entail.
