“It’s a Crossing...” is a conceptual work built around a simple rule: linking the East Coast of the United States to the West Coast through a sequence of images of “objects”, understood in a broad sense, everyday items, architectural forms, and fragments of landscape. By diverting the mythology of the road trip, Thomas Block Humery proposes a minimalist crossing of American territory, where fiction and documentary, grand history and banality, intertwine.
The book questions the very notion of the object and the interdependent relationships
between things and their environment, ultimately making the journey itself the true subject of the work. Inspired in part by the thought of Martin Heidegger, the project becomes both a visual and existential experience, in which each reader constructs their own path of perception and interpretation.
