Don’t Worry, I’m Fine

A visual reckoning of displacement and survival. Maryna Syrovatka's debut photobook documents Ukrainian refugees through intimate studio portraits that strip away context to expose raw humanity. Shot in Bratislava beginning in March 2022, these unflinching close-ups confront the viewer directly—no distance, no softening. Interwoven with the artist's own photographs of her transformed city, the work refuses neat categorization. It's part archive, part confession, part time capsule where "before" and "after" fracture across every page. The studio becomes sanctuary; the portraits become testimony. This is photography that doesn't look away, capturing how displacement reshapes not just the displaced, but everyone witnessing it.
