The latest issue of Aperture, “Stop Time,” is guest edited by Hiroshi Sugimoto and turns the magazine into a kind of time machine. Spanning from 1637 to 2050, it explores light, scientific imaging, extinction, and photography’s strange relationship with impermanence and eternity. With essays by Lucy Ives, Brian Dillon, Zoë Lescaze, Brad Bolman, and Sugimoto himself. Elsewhere, Man Ray’s Mathematical Objects returns, while new photographs take us inside Sugimoto’s curious New York studio and the Enoura Observatory in Japan.
