Aldo van Eyck: Seventeen, 18, 19... Playgrounds stems from a research project by Denisa Kollarová and Anna van Lingen, focused on the work of Dutch architect Aldo van Eyck (1918–1999), the creator of hundreds of playgrounds in Amsterdam designed between the 1940s and 1970s. His designs—characterized by simple metal structures, sandpits, and concrete elements—offered children a space to develop imagination and creativity through play.
The first edition of this publication, mapping van Eyck’s still-existing interventions in Amsterdam’s urban landscape, was published in 2015 by Lecturis. This second, expanded edition includes new contributions from Francis Strauvin, Paul Lappi, Tobias Krasenberg, Jonáš Verešpej, Tess Van Eyck, and Harm Stevens, and was peer-reviewed by Markus Miessen. It is published in a co-edition by FaVU VUT and Oreri–Iniziativa Editoriale, a risograph studio based in Cagliari, Sardinia.
