If music, Shakespeare mentioned, is the food of love, play on. No doubt he wrote that quote bobbing his head to the beat of a nearby minstrel. Taking heed of the bard’s words, the fifth issue of Sandwich Magazine celebrates the combination of music and food with YouTube sensation DJ BBQ on the cover. He cooked us up a delicious brisket in his back garden for the cover shoot while we chatted about his long history of cooking on the grill, his past life taking a barbecue on location as a snowboard film maker, music video producer and host of the BAFTA-winning extreme sports show, ‘RAD' and his current world of hosting, cooking and DJing at festivals as well as being a best selling author.
Award-winning author Will Self wrote a short piece of fiction about brisket to open the magazine and one of Britain’s best baker David Wright scolds us about the scandalous amount of bread we waste every day (it is an unholy amount).
We travel to Île de Noirmoutier in the Bay of Biscay to discover the millenia-old traditions of making salt and speak to the world record holder for the tallest freestanding sandwich/eminent creative scientist Dr Irwin Eydelnant about the future of food.
