A bilingual magazine from part of the team behind Safar Journal, Al Hayya reports on the work, interests and strife of woman in the context of Southwest Asia and North Africa.
It features interviews, opinion pieces and visual essays ranging from sex education to ownership as the sense of belonging. This issue explores the intersection between the body and the land. Historically subjected to land theft, forced migration, and displacement, the question of land and belonging blends with the daily life of the Arab people, as well as other populations who have likewise suffered the impact of colonization. What complexity does this question carry in relation to gender, migration, land sovereignty, livelihood, and being? In the second issue of Al Hayya, we attempt to tackle the intersection between the individual’s body and that of the land that carries it. Contributors reflect on the multiplicity of relations to lands, shifting borders, and restrictions of public space
